AWS re:Invent 2016 Announcements

At the 2016 re:Invent, the 5th annual educational AWS conference with over 24,000 attendees from around the world, AWS announced all of its newest features and boy was it exciting. At the first keynote, AWS CEO, Andy Jassy opened up with some nice numbers, he stated that AWS is a 13 billion dollar revenue run business growing at 55% year over year with a million active customers a month. Things are looking good to say the least. He then surprised us with all sorts of new products ranging from Artificial Intelligence, to Elastic GPUs for EC2, to new instance types and sizes, and even more ways to seamlessly migrate workloads. Andy also announced the launch of these AWS products: Amazon Athena, Amazon LEX, AWS Greengrass, Amazon Aurora with PostgreSQL compatibility, Amazon Lightsail, Amazon Polly, Amazon Rekognition, AWS Snowball Edge,  and AWS Snowmobile. Of course, AWS brought big customer success stories to the stage including ENEL, FINRA, McDonald’s, and Workday to give testimony on how AWS has transformed their business.

At the second Keynote Speech, Amazon.com CTO, Dr. Werner Vogel emphasized the agility and importance of Dev/ Test and encouraged us to experiment using all the new products that AWS has to offer. Being a customer-centric business, he opened by reassuring that AWS is here to give its customers choice, tools and the security they need to build a successful business with minimal painpoints. He discussed the latest trends and best practices in cloud computing leading up to his announcment of  the rest of AWS’ new products which included: AWS OpsWorks for Chef Automate, Amazon EC2 Systems Manager, AWS CodeBuild, AWS X-Ray, AWS Personal Health Dashboard, AWS Shield, Amazon Pinpoint, AWS Glue, AWS Batch, AWS Step Functions, Lambda@Edge, Blox, and more.
